Audit & Advisory Firms

Unlock opportunities with ESG assurance and advisory services

Equip your firm with the methodologies and expertise needed to offer ESG assurance and advisory services at the highest standard

The Challenge

  • Increasing client demand for ESG assurance

Businesses are under growing pressure to verify the credibility of their sustainability claims. Clients are seeking ESG assurance to enhance investor confidence, meet regulatory expectations, and strengthen stakeholder trust. Firms that develop ESG assurance services can tap into this expanding market.

  • Building internal ESG expertise

Many firms lack in-house ESG specialists, making it difficult to deliver high-quality sustainability audits. Upskilling audit teams through structured training and capacity-building programmes allows firms to offer credible ESG assurance services while staying ahead of industry best practice.

  • Meeting regulatory expectations in audit methodologies

The FRC and IAASA require firms to incorporate ESG risks into their financial statement audits. Firms must assess climate and sustainability-related risks in line with auditing standards and IFRS / FRS 102. Auditors must evaluate material ESG risks, determine their financial impact, and ensure these risks are appropriately reflected in corporate reporting.

  • Developing structured ESG assurance frameworks

Firms need robust frameworks to ensure ESG assurance processes are consistent, reliable and auditable. Establishing clear methodologies aligned with regulatory requirements such as ISSA 5000 and ISAE (Ireland) 3000 enables firms to provide high-quality assurance that meets client and stakeholder expectations while adhering to recognised assurance standards.

  • Supporting CSRD and sustainability reporting

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive is redefining sustainability reporting across Europe. Firms must prepare for a surge in demand for CSRD-compliant assurance by integrating ESG into their audit methodologies, risk assessment processes and advisory services.

Establishing ESG assurance leadership in the UK and Ireland

The UK and Irish member firm of a Top 10 international network sought to position itself as a leader in ESG assurance, ahead of the first wave of CSRD. With increasing regulatory pressure and client demand, the firm also needed to formalise its approach to considering climate and sustainability-related risks in its financial statement audits.

Our director developed the firm’s ESG assurance strategy, securing its registration as Ireland’s first ACCA-regulated Sustainability Assurance Service Provider (SASP). This milestone allowed the firm to offer independent ESG assurance to clients in scope of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), aligning with global frameworks such as ISSA 5000 and ISAE (Ireland) 3000. By integrating sustainability considerations into audit methodologies, the firm strengthened its ability to assess ESG risks and ensure sustainability disclosures met regulatory expectations.

To enhance internal capabilities, we developed structured training for audit teams, enabling them to assess ESG risks within financial statement audits and implement assurance methodologies effectively. The firm’s strengthened governance, risk management, and internal controls positioned it as a trusted ESG assurance provider, offering clients confidence in their sustainability reporting.
